Roadway Engineer

We are looking for a dedicated full-time Roadway Engineer to enhance our team. This position will engage in various transportation and infrastructure initiatives that involve ODOT and Local-Let roadway design. The chosen candidate will take part in all stages of project development, including roadway geometry, traffic maintenance, drainage systems, traffic management, stormwater control, and the preparation of construction documentation. Additional responsibilities include cost estimation, aiding in funding applications, supporting project programming, and participating in the bidding and construction coordination processes.

Key Responsibilities of the Roadway Engineer:

  • Design ODOT and Local-Let roadway plans utilizing MicroStation and AutoCAD.
  • Create roadway geometric layouts, standard cross-sections, drainage designs, maintenance of traffic strategies, traffic control plans, and post-construction stormwater BMP designs.
  • Gather plan quantities and produce construction cost estimates using Excel or Estimator.
  • Conduct hydraulic and drainage calculations.
  • Assist in the development of funding applications and project programming materials, including scopes of work, field evaluations, and coordination meetings.
  • Facilitate the bidding process by drafting bid documents, addressing contractor inquiries, and aiding in contractor coordination.
  • Develop exhibits and visual materials for public engagement sessions and attend meetings as required.
  • Contribute to the creation of technical reports, including preliminary engineering documentation.
  • Track project progress to ensure that completion aligns with scope, timeline, and budget constraints.
  • Identify and report any potential out-of-scope work items.
  • Assist in proposal development, including responses to RFPs and crafting fee estimates.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with clients, agencies, contractors, and the public.

Qualifications for the Roadway Engineer:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering is required.
  • A Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Ohio is mandatory.
  • Preferred experience of five or more years in roadway engineering.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of ODOT standards, procedures, and plan development processes.
  • Proficient in using MicroStation and AutoCAD.
  • Able to work autonomously and manage tasks with minimal oversight.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
