The Application Engineer plays a vital role as a technical authority, providing support to internal teams and external clients in the materials testing product range. This position collaborates closely with Sales, Marketing, and customers to deliver hands-on technical assistance, conduct product demonstrations, aid in application development, and deliver training sessions. The successful candidate will exhibit strong knowledge in materialography, excellent presentation abilities, a methodical approach to problem-solving, and a genuine passion for educating clients.
Key Responsibilities of the Application Engineer:
- Offer technical and application assistance for materials testing instruments to both internal and external customers.
- Evaluate customer samples and devise preparation methods and optimal practices.
- Conduct product demonstrations in various settings including in-house, at customer locations, trade exhibitions, and through virtual platforms like WebEx.
- Facilitate technical training sessions for customers and internal staff.
- Create and implement educational training content and courses.
- Assist the Sales team with technical discussions and converting opportunities.
- Present technical material through webinars, conferences, workshops, and industry gatherings.
- Help customers troubleshoot and resolve quality-related issues.
- Engage in continuous improvement projects, including Lean initiatives such as 5S.
Qualifications for the Application Engineer:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, or a closely related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated experience in materialographic sample preparation and microscopy is essential.
- Familiarity with hardness testing and/or image analysis software is desirable.
- Understanding of ISO and ASTM standards, such as ISO 17025, ASTM E10, E18, and E92/E384 is beneficial.
- Strong command of Microsoft Office and various technical software applications.
- Excellent skills for presenting and demonstrating products, both in person and online.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication capabilities.
- Analytical, structured, and team-oriented approach to problem-solving.
- Valid driving record and willingness to travel domestically and internationally, including overnight trips.
