Lab Collection Specialist
Location: San Diego, CA
Compensation: $17.50 – $19.00 per hour
The Lab Collection Specialist will operate within a Criminal Justice environment, responsible for the collection, logging, ordering, processing, and shipping of urine and oral fluid (saliva) samples for drug testing purposes.
Key Responsibilities of the Lab Collection Specialist:
- Responsible for the collection, logging, ordering, processing, and shipping of urine, oral, and/or hair samples to the laboratory.
- Ensure organization and accuracy in the specimen collection process.
- Prepare samples for shipment.
- Complete all necessary requisitions, chain of custody documentation, and related paperwork.
- Gather and scan insurance information when applicable.
Qualifications for the Lab Collection Specialist:
- A high school diploma or GED is mandatory.
- At least one year of experience in a customer or patient-facing role is essential.
- Experience in healthcare, criminal justice, or a related field is advantageous.
- Capability to observe collections and collect biological samples is required.
- Must possess the ability to work professionally without direct supervision.
- Strong attention to detail coupled with excellent verbal and written communication skills is required.
- Able to manage tight deadlines and effectively de-escalate communication in potentially stressful or dynamic situations independently.
- Basic computer skills are necessary.
- Must be capable of light to moderate physical effort, including lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs., and remaining seated or standing for extended periods.
- Willingness to wear scrubs and protective devices such as gloves is required.
