Project Inspector Summary
We are in search of ODOT Prequalified Inspectors specializing in Structures/Bridges to aid in roadway and bridge construction initiatives across Northeast Ohio. The selected candidate will oversee construction administration, inspect ongoing work, perform materials testing, and ensure quality assurance on ODOT-funded transportation infrastructure assignments. A strong background in bridge and roadway inspection, comprehensive knowledge of ODOT specifications, and the capability to operate independently in the field while liaising with contractors, engineers, and local agencies are essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities of the Project Inspector

  • Execute construction inspection and administration tasks for roadway and bridge developments.
  • Oversee contractor activities to ensure adherence to ODOT specifications, design plans, and established quality benchmarks.
  • Interpret and analyze project drawings, blueprints, specifications, and relevant construction documents.
  • Confirm project quantities, calculations, and conformity to bidding plans.
  • Create and upkeep daily reports, project documentation, and inspection records.
  • Relay updates regarding project status and inform contractors and engineers of any non-compliant work.
  • Perform on-site quality control testing for materials including concrete, asphalt, soils, masonry, aggregate, and reinforcing steel.
  • Assist in quality assurance efforts, ensuring compliance with testing and inspection protocols.
  • Independently manage tasks at active construction sites within the broader Cleveland and Northeast Ohio area.
  • Execute additional inspection and project-related duties as required.

Qualifications for the Project Inspector

  • Certification as an ODOT Prequalified Structures Inspector is mandatory.
  • Experience in construction inspection on ODOT-funded roadway and bridge projects is necessary.
  • Understanding of construction inspection principles, engineering practices, materials testing, and quality control is essential.
  • Preferred experience with concrete, asphalt, earthworks, utility construction, and associated testing methodologies.
  • Competence in reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and construction documents is required.
  • Proficiency in reporting, maintaining project documentation, and tracking project quantities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Capacity to work autonomously with minimal oversight in active construction settings.
  • Willingness to work outdoors under various weather conditions and travel within Northeast Ohio.
  • A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is necessary.
