Medical Technologist (MT/MLS)
Compensation: $28.00/hr
Location: Cleveland, OH
Position Overview
The Medical Technologist is responsible for conducting intricate laboratory tests and analyses on patient specimens to aid in the diagnosis, management, and prevention of medical conditions. This position guarantees the delivery of precise and prompt test outcomes while adhering to established laboratory protocols, quality benchmarks, and regulatory standards.
Main Responsibilities
- Conduct both routine and specialized tests across various laboratory domains, including hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunology, blood banking, and urinalysis.
- Interpret and analyze laboratory findings with accuracy and efficiency.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory tools and equipment effectively.
- Adhere to quality control, safety, and infection control standards.
- Examine abnormal test results and communicate findings to physicians or nursing staff as required.
- Prepare and handle patient specimens by following established protocols.
- Keep comprehensive and accurate laboratory documentation and records.
- Assist in troubleshooting equipment and resolving any technical issues that arise.
- Engage in proficiency testing, quality assurance, and ongoing improvement initiatives.
- Mentor and train laboratory assistants, students, or new team members as necessary.
- Comply with all HIPAA, OSHA, CAP, CLIA, and internal policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related discipline.
- Preferred or required certification: MLS(ASCP), MT(ASCP), AMT, or an equivalent.
- State licensure, if mandated by local regulations.
- Comprehensive knowledge of laboratory methods, instruments, and quality assurance processes.
- Strong skills in analysis, organization, and communication.
- Capable of working both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) and relevant computer applications.
- 1–3 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting is preferred.
- Experience in hospital-based, diagnostic, or reference laboratory environments.
- Knowledge of automated laboratory devices and regulatory compliance.
- Able to stand for long durations and possess manual dexterity to manage laboratory instruments and samples.
- Capacity to lift items weighing up to 25 pounds on occasion.
- Exposure to biological substances and chemicals in a lab context.
