Lab Assistant
Kansas City, MO
Evening Shift: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
Night Shift: 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM
Compensation: $19-22 per hour

The Lab Assistant position involves conducting routine tests on samples within the Analytical Services laboratory, generating essential analytical data for various functions, including process and quality control, product development, and waste management. This role requires working eight-hour shifts and rotating schedules every three to four months.

Lab Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine analytical tests according to established protocols and instructions.
  • Prepare solutions, maintain cleanliness of glassware, manage waste disposal, and perform additional tasks to support laboratory operations.
  • Provide training to colleagues on waste management protocols.
  • Notify laboratory management of any issues or concerns related to sample integrity, inventory levels, safety, or analytical discrepancies.
  • Communicate potential troubleshooting areas within testing procedures.
  • Execute titration testing on final products using an auto-titrator and relevant software.
  • Carry out basic preventative maintenance as outlined in work instructions and report any operational issues with lab instruments and equipment.
  • Utilize the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), Chromatography Data System (CDS), and other instrument-specific software effectively.
  • Utilize various databases to research test methods, specifications, and standards necessary for analyses.
  • Record, calculate, and report analytical results accurately and promptly.
  • Review analytical data and LIMS reports thoroughly.
  • Engage in discussions regarding any issues with team members and superiors.
  • Complete data entry for performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs), identifying opportunities for process improvements.
  • Assist in refining established protocols and participating in continuous improvement projects.
  • Communicate testing results to clients as needed, maintaining a customer-focused approach.
  • Notify leads when supplies and consumables are running low.
  • Practice good safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Participate in laboratory and site safety programs as well as cross-site initiatives.
  • Stay informed on RCRA hazardous waste regulations, the classification of waste, and procedures for reporting spills and leaks immediately.
  • Be flexible with work hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Proactively seek additional work to enhance team productivity.

Lab Assistant Requirements:

  • Completion of high school and at least one year of laboratory experience.
  • Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail with the capability to assess outcomes against established standards.
  • Ability to identify common instrument issues independently and assist peers when necessary.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workloads to improve lab efficiency and productivity.
  • Preferred: Over three years of laboratory experience.
  • Preferred: Understanding of basic HPLC and GC operations.
