Plant Biologist
Chesterfield, MO
$30-33/hr
6-Month Contract
The role of the **Plant Biologist** involves aiding research efforts centered on wheat cultivated in regulated settings, such as greenhouses and growth chambers.
Responsibilities of the Plant Biologist:
- Oversee daily care of wheat plants in controlled environments, which includes activities like watering, fertilizing, and executing pollination tasks.
- Perform phenotyping assessments and record observations related to plant growth, morphology, and reactions to various treatments.
- Collect plant samples for laboratory analysis.
- Administer chemical and physical treatments on plants following standard operating procedures and safety protocols.
- Assist in the design and execution of experiments while analyzing and interpreting results.
- Accurately log observations and experimental findings using Excel and other data management tools.
- Ensure the cleanliness of growth environments and proper usage and storage of equipment.
- Work collaboratively with team members to troubleshoot issues and generate experimental ideas.
- Share findings and engage in discussions during team meetings.
Qualifications for the Plant Biologist:
- Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Plant Biology, Horticulture, Plant Molecular Biology, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in managing plants within controlled environments (greenhouses/growth chambers).
- Foundational knowledge in plant physiology, biotechnology, and molecular biology.
- Strong attention to detail and good manual dexterity (e.g., adeptness with tweezers for hand pollinations).
- Outstanding organizational, analytical, and communication abilities.
- Capability to adhere to detailed instructions and maintain precise records.
- Experience with wheat or cereal crops is preferred.
- Familiarity with genomics or lab assays pertinent to plant biology is preferred.
