Senior Maintenance Technician

The Senior Maintenance Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the operational efficiency, reliability, and precision of approximately 30 CNC machines across two manufacturing facilities. This position primarily focuses on the upkeep of both mechanical and electrical components of CNC machining centers, with a distribution of about 80% dedicated to CNC asset maintenance and 20% devoted to general facility upkeep, including environmental controls. The technician will be essential in supporting a high-stakes production atmosphere, collaborating with internal teams and external service providers to maintain seamless operations.
Key Responsibilities
CNC Asset Maintenance (Approx. 80%)
- Diagnose and address electrical and mechanical malfunctions in CNC mills and lathes.
- Perform troubleshooting and upkeep on: spindles, ball screws, way covers, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, and tool-change carousels.
- Identify repair solutions and work with outside vendors or internal teams to execute necessary repairs.
- Establish and organize preventative maintenance (PM) schedules for CNC machinery.
- Conduct machine leveling and geometric alignment assessments (training will be provided as necessary).
- Employ diagnostic tools to pinpoint failures in electrical cabinets, motors, and feedback systems.
Facility Maintenance (Approx. 20%)
- Identify and resolve facility-related issues to foster a high-precision manufacturing setting.
- Oversee and manage environmental controls within the facility.
- Act as the primary liaison for external contractors and service providers related to facility maintenance.
- Coordinate repair tasks with third-party service providers.
Minimum Qualifications
- 3 to 5 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment that heavily utilizes CNC technology.
- Strong combination of electrical and mechanical skills.
- Preferred experience in high-precision or aerospace manufacturing settings.
- Capable of interpreting complex electrical schematics, mechanical diagrams, and assembly blueprints.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 programs.
- Must adhere to ITAR compliance and qualify as a U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder).
Skills & Competencies
- Expert in the repair and maintenance of: CNC spindles, ball screws, way covers, and tool-change carousels.
- In-depth understanding of hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, pumps, valves, and actuators.
- Ability to perform precision machine alignment and leveling tasks.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and blueprints.
- Experience with 3-phase power systems, motor controls, and industrial wiring.
- Knowledgeable in troubleshooting CNC control logic.
- Familiarity with various CNC control systems.
- Skilled in using multimeters, electrical diagnostic tools, and feedback loop troubleshooting instruments.
- Proficient in coordinating and managing third-party contractors and service providers.
- Basic knowledge of industrial plumbing, HVAC systems, and general building maintenance.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a methodical approach to root cause analysis.
- Capable of communicating technical issues effectively to operators and management teams.
- Excellent organizational and coordination skills.
- Willingness to provide training and mentorship to machine operators.
